The New York Yankees made some roster moves by activating right-handers Clarke Schmidt and Ian Hamilton from the 60-day injured list. Both players had been sidelined due to right lat strains. Schmidt, 28, was set to start against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday after not pitching for the Yankees since May 26. Prior to his injury, Schmidt had a record of 5-3 with a 2.52 ERA in 11 starts. During his recovery, he pitched 1 1/3 innings in three minor league rehab starts.
Hamilton, 29, had been out of action since June 16. He had appeared in 27 relief games, posting a 0-1 record with a 4.55 ERA, striking out 30 batters and walking 14 in 29 2/3 innings. Hamilton also made appearances in three minor league games as part of his rehabilitation process.
In order to make room for Schmidt and Hamilton on the roster, the Yankees designated right-handers Phil Bickford and Nick Burdi for assignment. This move allows the team to bring back two key pitchers as they push forward in the season.
This news comes as a welcome development for the Yankees, who look to bolster their pitching staff for the remainder of the season. Schmidt and Hamilton’s return provides added depth and options for the team as they continue their playoff push.
