Ostrich on the loose causes traffic disruption in South Dakota as it escapes from a trailer

In Sioux Falls, South Dakota, an unusual sight disrupted traffic flow on Tuesday when an ostrich found its way onto a bustling four-lane road. Concerned drivers contacted the Sioux Falls police just before noon to report the presence of the bird, standing about 7 feet tall, in the middle of the road.

Responding promptly to the situation, police and animal officials arrived at the scene to assist. Onlookers captured video footage of motorists stepping out of their vehicles to coax the ostrich off the road. Using a plastic container filled with food and some gentle nudges, the bird was carefully guided away from the traffic.

According to a police spokesperson, the ostrich was one of several being transported in a trailer by an out-of-state traveler before it managed to escape. The owner of the birds assisted in apprehending the ostrich and safely returning it to the trailer.

Sioux Falls Animal Control officer, Thomas Rhoades, reassured the public that the ostrich did not sustain any injuries during the incident and was successfully reunited with its owner without further complications.
