A strong typhoon is approaching Japan’s southwestern islands, with meteorologists warning residents about heavy rain and strong winds expected in the area in the upcoming days. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that Typhoon Shanshan was centered about 130 kilometers (80 miles) east of the southern island of Amami on Tuesday morning, moving slowly north towards Kyushu while carrying winds of up to 162 kilometers (100 miles) per hour. No damages from the typhoon have been reported yet, but people are bracing for the anticipated heavy rain and high winds.

Japan Railway companies operating Shinkansen super-express trains have informed passengers that services might be halted in Kyushu, the main southern island, and significant parts of Honshu, the main island, between Wednesday and Sunday. The Japan Meteorological Agency has projected rainfall of up to 400 millimeters (15.7 inches) on Amami island over the next 24 hours and as much as 500 millimeters (19.7 inches) in the Kyushu region from Wednesday to Thursday.

In preparation for the impending typhoon, fishermen in the Kyushu region secured their boats at port facilities on Monday. The region is taking precautions to minimize any potential damage from the approaching storm. The public is advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary safety measures during this period of heightened risk.
