On Tuesday night, the Washington Nationals defeated the New York Yankees 4-2 in an exciting game where rookies shined. Dylan Crews, a rookie, got his first two career hits, while Andrés Chaparro and José Tena hit back-to-back home runs. Aaron Judge, playing for the Yankees, doubled in the first inning but was unable to add to his 51 home runs. Despite this, Judge managed to score New York’s first run in the eighth inning.
Pitcher Patrick Corbin of the Nationals outperformed Gerrit Cole of the Yankees, throwing six scoreless innings with two hits and six strikeouts. Corbin was superb in controlling the powerful Yankees lineup. In the ninth inning, Kyle Finnegan secured his 33rd save of the season.
Crews made his mark in the game by hitting a double and an infield single. The Nationals had a young lineup with several rookies showcasing their talent. Chaparro and Tena both hit their first career home runs against Cole, who struggled by allowing three runs in five innings.
In terms of injuries, the Yankees’ Luis Gil and Anthony Rizzo are making progress with Gil throwing live batting practice and Rizzo homering in a rehab game. The Nationals manager, Dave Martinez, missed his postgame media availability due to a nosebleed.
The next game will feature a matchup between New York’s Carlos Rodón and Washington’s MacKenzie Gore, both left-handers, as the series concludes on Wednesday night.
