NASCAR Cup race postponed to Monday due to persistent rain at Michigan

The NASCAR FireKeepers 400 at Michigan was suspended due to rain, with officials unable to complete the race on Sunday. The event was delayed multiple times by rainy weather and was eventually postponed until Monday in hopes of finishing at least half the race to avoid extending into a second day, as happened the previous year.

The race was scheduled to resume at 11 a.m. EDT on Monday following the weather interruptions. During the driver introductions, Austin Dillon, who received some boos from the crowd, responded by waving and blowing a kiss to the spectators. The starting positions were determined by points standings as qualifying was canceled due to rain.

Kyle Larson took the lead early on, driving at high speeds as the race progressed. Bubba Wallace made a swift move to pass Larson and Denny Hamlin as they raced side by side. Hamlin, co-owner of the 23XI Racing team with Michael Jordan, encountered some trouble and had to pit, allowing Ryan Blaney to seize the lead at the end of the first stage.

With 12 drivers already securing playoff spots, only four spots remain open with three races left before the playoffs. Following the conclusion of the FireKeepers 400, drivers and teams will quickly shift focus to qualifying for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday night.
