The Astros, trailing 1-0, turned the game around with a three-run inning in the third against White Sox starter Chris Flexen. Shay Whitcomb and Mauricio Dubón scored on Altuve’s two-run single, followed by Yordan Alvarez bringing Altuve home for another run. Dubón added a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to extend Houston’s lead to 4-1.
Flexen struggled, giving up four runs on seven hits in four innings, marking his ninth loss in a row in his last 18 starts. Meanwhile, Gavin Sheets provided the lone run for the White Sox, who were officially eliminated from playoff contention.
In the seventh inning, Diaz drove in Altuve with an infield single, wrapping up a successful night for the Astros. Altuve finished the game 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
In injury news, White Sox’s RHP Steven WIlson was placed on the 15-day injured list, while Astros’ RHP Ryan Pressly joined the list due to a lower back strain. Astros manager Joe Espada remains optimistic about Pressly’s injury not being serious. Astros’ OF Kyle Tucker engaged in batting practice after a right shin contusion, and 3B Alex Bregman missed the game due to elbow soreness.
