Twins defeat struggling Rangers 5-2 with Castro’s key 2-run single in 8th inning

In Arlington, Texas, the Minnesota Twins overcame a 2-1 deficit in the eighth inning to beat the struggling Texas Rangers 5-2 on Saturday night. Willi Castro’s bases-loaded single drove in two runs, with another run scoring due to a throwing error by the Rangers. Trevor Larnach hit a homer, and the Twins added another run in the ninth inning.
Ronny Henriquez earned his first big-league victory by pitching two scoreless innings in relief for the Twins. The Twins have won three games in the four-game series and improved to a season-best 17 games over .500 at 70-53, positioning them two games behind AL Central leaders Cleveland.
Carson Kelly drove in both runs for the Rangers, who are currently 12 games under .500 and have lost 16 of their last 21 games. Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi performed well for the Rangers, allowing only three hits.
Former Rangers player Adrian Beltré, recently inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, was honored before the game. In terms of injuries, Rangers pitchers Jacob deGrom and Jon Gray are on track for rehab assignments in the coming week.
In the upcoming game, Twins’ pitcher Pablo López, who has struggled in past appearances against the Rangers, will face off against Rangers’ pitcher Tyler Mahle, who has had limited run support in recent starts.
