In a game that marked the return of both teams after a month-long break for the Paris Olympics, the Connecticut Sun defeated the Dallas Wings 109-91 on Friday night in Arlington, Texas. DeWanna Bonner led the Sun with a season-high 29 points, while Marina Mabrey added 17 points in her debut with Connecticut. Alyssa Thomas contributed 12 points, 14 assists, and eight rebounds, Tyasha Harris scored 14 points, Brionna Jones had 12, and Olivia Nelson-Ododa added 10 off the bench for the Sun, who improved to 19-6.

Dallas Wings had an 8-0 start, but Connecticut quickly turned the game around with an 11-0 run sparked by Thomas. Satou Sabally made her season debut for Dallas with an impressive performance of 20 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals after missing the first 25 games due to a shoulder injury. Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with 21 points, Natasha Howard scored 17 with 11 rebounds, and Teaira McCowan chipped in with 12 points and seven boards.

Bonner excelled with four 3-pointers, surpassing Tamika Catchings to claim the eighth spot on the WNBA’s career made 3-pointers list with 608. Mabrey and Bonner each scored 13 points in the first half as the Sun took a 50-38 lead going into halftime. Connecticut set a season-high for points in a game, shooting 57.6% from the field, hitting 11 3-pointers, and tying a franchise record with 30 assists.

Connecticut recently acquired Marina Mabrey from Chicago, where she averaged 14 points per game this season, in exchange for draft picks and players. With the win, the Sun demonstrated a strong performance, scoring the most points by a Wings’ opponent this season and showcasing their offensive firepower.
