In Pittsburgh, during a game against the Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates’ designated hitter Andrew McCutchen and shortstop Oneil Cruz both sustained injuries while running the bases in the seventh inning. McCutchen hit a single to left field but started limping as he reached first base. Ji Hwan Bae took over as a pinch runner for McCutchen, who had just extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Shortly after, Cruz hit a two-run double to right field but stumbled around second base. Jared Triolo stepped in as a pinch runner for Cruz. The exact nature of their injuries was not immediately disclosed. Cruz’s double helped the Pirates take a 5-2 lead as they aimed to end a 10-game losing streak.
