A tragic incident unfolded in Virginia Beach as a 1-year-old girl lost her life after her father stabbed her mother, abducted her, and took her and her siblings on a harrowing journey that ended in a crash in Maryland. The tumultuous events began when Dana Plummer, 36, of Virginia Beach, attacked the woman and young girl with multiple stab wounds before fleeing with his 7- and 5-year-old sons and 1-year-old daughter, as reported by the Virginia Beach Police.
Following the violent episode, the injured woman and child were discovered by authorities and rushed to nearby hospitals where they were reported to be in stable condition. Dana Plummer was sought by the police, who obtained warrants for charges including aggravated malicious wounding and parental abduction, prompting the issuance of an Amber Alert by the Virginia State Police for the missing children.
The pursuit of the fleeing father and children ensued after the SUV they were traveling in was spotted on Interstate 95 in Fairfax County on Thursday morning. Virginia State Police attempted to halt the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, leading to a high-speed chase into Maryland on Interstate 495. The pursuit ended tragically as the driver lost control of the SUV and crashed, resulting in the 1-year-old girl being taken to a hospital, where she tragically passed away from her injuries.
Fortunately, the other two children, as well as Dana Plummer, survived the crash and were in stable condition in area hospitals as reported by Maryland State Police. The Maryland State Police will conduct an investigation into the fatal crash. Despite the gravity of the situation, none of the pursuing Virginia State Police vehicles made contact with the SUV during the chase.
