Wrigley Field in Chicago is set to host a series of college hockey doubleheaders in January following the NHL’s Winter Classic, as per an announcement from the Big Ten and Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Titled “The Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series,” the event will include three men’s games and one women’s game, with the Chicago Blackhawks going up against the St. Louis Blues on December 31 at Wrigley Field.
The men’s college matchups are Penn State versus Notre Dame and Ohio State versus Michigan on January 3, followed by Wisconsin versus Michigan State on January 4. Additionally, the defending national champion, Ohio State, will face off against Wisconsin in a women’s game on January 4.
All the men’s teams participating were ranked in the top 20 last season, with Michigan making it to the NCAA Frozen Four. In women’s hockey, Ohio State and Wisconsin have collectively secured the last five national championships, meeting in the last two NCAA title games.
This initiative promises to bring exciting hockey action to Wrigley Field following the Winter Classic, showcasing top-tier college teams for fans to enjoy.
