Joseph Glover, the Provost at the University of Arizona who commenced his role in July after being hired in April, has decided to leave the position and return to his former job at the University of Florida. Prior to his brief tenure at Arizona, Glover spent 15 years at the University of Florida, where he also held the position of senior vice president of academic affairs. Following a request from the University of Florida’s interim president, Kent Fuchs, Glover has agreed to return to his previous role as provost at the university to offer his expertise and support.
Florida’s current provost, Scott Angle, who has been in the position since January, will be stepping down on Sept. 6 to resume his duties as the senior vice president for agriculture and natural resources. Meanwhile, the University of Arizona has recently appointed Suresh Garimella, who had been serving as the president of the University of Vermont since 2019, as its new leader.
In an email to students and staff at the University of Arizona, Glover mentioned that he will collaborate with the university’s leadership to assist his successor and facilitate a seamless transition. The University of Arizona intends to name an interim provost in the near future to bridge the gap left by Glover’s departure.
