The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has concluded an investigation into complaints regarding potential suspension part failures in around 75,000 Tesla vehicles. The probe focused on the Model S from 2015 to 2017 and the Model X from 2016 and 2017, revealing 426 reports of issues, including one crash without injuries recorded.
Despite the identified problems, NHTSA determined that drivers could still maintain control of the Teslas even if the front fore links failed. As a result, the agency decided not to pursue a recall and closed the investigation initiated in November 2020.
Although Tesla conducted a customer satisfaction campaign in 2017 to replace some fore links on specific vehicles, NHTSA highlighted that this initiative did not address 75% of the reported failures. Therefore, NHTSA recommended that Tesla extend the replacement program to cover more affected vehicles.
No immediate response was provided by Tesla upon request for comment regarding the NHTSA’s findings and recommendations.
