New York resident gives testimony in trial about RFK Jr. renting a room, raising questions about his residency in the state

In a court hearing, the owner of the suburban New York property that independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. claims as a residence disclosed that he pays $500 monthly for a room. Kennedy is facing a lawsuit alleging that he falsely listed a New York City suburban address in his New York nominating petition while actually residing in Los Angeles since 2014. The lawsuit aims to invalidate his petition, potentially excluding him from New York’s election ballot in November.
Barbara Moss, who has owned the Katonah property since 1991 and lived there with her husband Timothy Haydock, an old friend of Kennedy, testified that Kennedy is a tenant paying $500 a month for a room without a written lease. She mentioned that as long as Kennedy requires the room, the arrangement will continue, indicating their understanding.
Moss presented photos of the room with Kennedy’s clothes in the closet and dresser drawers as evidence, along with testimony that he regularly received mail at the residence. The lawsuit contends that Kennedy only visited the property, located about 40 miles north of Manhattan, on a limited basis.
Kennedy’s legal team argues that the 70-year-old has been a resident of New York since the age of 10, emphasizing his relocation to California as temporary to accommodate his wife Cheryl Hines’ career as an actor in “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” He stated in court documents that he moved to the Katonah address after being asked to vacate a nearby property last year, a claim disputed by the owners of that house in court on Monday.
The lawsuit was filed by Clear Choice PAC on behalf of several New York voters, a super PAC led by backers of Democratic President Joe Biden. A judge will make a verdict on the case without a jury involved.
