A New York state trooper recruit was taken into custody after a violent incident at a training academy in Cazenovia, N.Y. According to state police, the 22-year-old recruit expressed his desire to quit the academy and depart the campus of the former Cazenovia College in central New York on July 23.
During the process of arranging for the recruit’s resignation, he suddenly attacked a trooper and attempted to seize the trooper’s firearm from its holster, as reported by state police spokesperson Beau Duffy.
Following the altercation, the recruit was charged with assault and attempted robbery. The trooper sustained a minor injury during the incident and was treated at a hospital before being released.
Subsequently, the recruit was arraigned on the charges and later freed on bail. Requests for information regarding his legal representation to the Madison County district attorney’s office have not been answered.
