Murkowski to Release Bipartisan-Themed Book in June

One of the remaining Republicans in Congress who has not shied away from criticizing President Donald Trump is set to release a book this summer. Senator Lisa Murkowski’s new work, titled “Far From Home: An Alaskan Senator Faces the Extreme Climate of Washington, D.C.,” is scheduled for publication on June 24.

In a statement from her publisher, Forum Books, a Penguin Random House imprint, Murkowski expressed, “Alaska holds a special place in my heart, but my belief in collaboration, compromise for the greater good, and attributing credit appropriately remains steadfast. I think this approach reflects the wishes of the majority of Americans.”

Murkowski, who began her political career as a state lawmaker, was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2002 by her father, then-Governor Frank Murkowski, who had vacated the seat to serve as governor. Known for her moderate approach, she has sometimes defied her party lines, steadily garnering a diverse base of supporters across Alaska. In a noteworthy 2010 election, after losing the Republican primary, she successfully retained her seat through an unprecedented write-in campaign. Her recent 2022 election marked the first time Alaska implemented a new election system featuring open primaries and ranked-choice voting during general elections.

Following Trump’s return to office in January, Murkowski has publicly opposed several of his actions, such as pardoning the January 6 rioters and renaming Denali, North America’s tallest peak in Alaska, to Mount McKinley. Additionally, she voted against confirming Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense and Kash Patel as Director of the FBI. Her upcoming book promises to reveal “the candid story” of her experiences in Washington and issues “a fervent” plea for bipartisan cooperation.

Despite the departure or electoral losses of other prominent Trump critics within the GOP, such as former Rep. Liz Cheney and former Sen. Mitt Romney, Murkowski has maintained her stance.

“My intention with this book is to convey the lessons I’ve learned on this journey,” Murkowski commented in her release. “I aim to restore faith that our democracy can thrive once more as a platform for well-intentioned Americans to address challenges and safeguard our freedoms. Furthermore, achieving this doesn’t necessitate extraordinary acts by exceptional people, but rather, it demands the daily commitment of ordinary citizens who share common values.”
