The MTV Video Music Awards are back on Wednesday night, with Taylor Swift leading the nominations. Swift has 12 nominations, including eight for her “Fortnight” music video, two for social categories, and nods in the best pop and artist of the year categories. Post Malone follows closely with 11 nominations, including a collaboration with Swift on “Fortnight” and a separate nomination for his country hit “I Had Some Help” featuring Morgan Wallen.
It remains uncertain if Swift will attend the show, but if she does, it could provide a platform for her to express support for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. Swift publicly endorsed the vice president following the recent debate with former president Donald Trump.
Swift has a strong record at the VMAs, winning nine awards last year and bringing her total to 23, just behind Beyoncé with 30 and ahead of Madonna with 20. With seven wins, Swift would tie Beyoncé’s record, and with eight, she could become the most awarded musician in VMA history.
The VMAs will kick off at 8 p.m. Eastern at the UBS Arena on Long Island, with Megan Thee Stallion hosting the show for the first time. Katy Perry will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award and perform, joining a list of previous recipients like Shakira, Beyoncé, Madonna, and more.
Eminem will open the show, and there will be performances by various artists including Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Shawn Mendes, and many more. The event will be broadcast on MTV and various other channels.
