Motorist in NYC who drove into July 4th crowd, resulting in 3 deaths and 8 injuries, remanded without bail

A man from Monmouth, New Jersey, named Daniel Hyden, faced arraignment in Manhattan criminal court after driving his pickup truck through a group celebrating the Fourth of July in Manhattan, resulting in three deaths and eight injuries. The incident occurred shortly before the start of the Macy’s fireworks show and various other fireworks displays in New York City. According to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, Hyden, 44, was charged with several offenses, including aggravated vehicular homicide, assault, manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and other related charges. The Legal Aid Society, representing Hyden, did not provide immediate comments. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 10.
The fatal crash took place in Manhattan’s Lower East Side after Hyden reportedly drove his Ford F-150 pickup truck at high speed, disregarding a stop sign and proceeding onto the sidewalk and into Corlears Hook Park. Responding officers discovered Hyden’s pickup truck on top of four victims, with three individuals tragically losing their lives: Lucille Pinkney, 59; Hernan Pinkney, 38; and Ana Morel, 43. The injured victims, who were transported to hospitals, included an 11-year-old boy, an 18-year-old woman, and multiple individuals in their 30s.
