Michelle Trachtenberg’s mother last saw her daughter alive just 10 hours before she discovered the Gossip Girl star unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment, according to reports.
Lana Trachtenberg reportedly spent time with her daughter around 10 p.m. Tuesday before finding her unconscious around 8 a.m. Wednesday at her luxury apartment near Central Park South.
Despite ongoing health concerns following a liver transplant within the past year, the 39-year-old actress had maintained an active social life, dining with friends at Sartiano’s Italian restaurant in Soho just last Thursday.
Sources close to the actress suspect she may have suffered complications related to her transplant, with initial reports suggesting her body rejected the organ. Officials have ruled out foul play, stating her death was due to natural causes, but the exact cause will be determined by the city’s medical examiner.
A close friend of the actress, photographer Amanda de Cadenet, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, revealing that Trachtenberg had been hospitalized recently and was aware of the severity of her condition.
“Seeing your face from the hospital bed when we FaceTimed recently, even though you did not look like you, your sweetness and humor were still alive,” de Cadenet wrote.
In the months leading up to her passing, fans raised concerns about the actress’s increasingly frail appearance on social media.
Trachtenberg addressed speculation about her health last January, reassuring her 800,000 Instagram followers that she was “happy and healthy” while also denying rumors that she had undergone plastic surgery.
Best known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, Trachtenberg was a familiar face to millennial audiences.
Her sudden passing has left fans and loved ones in mourning as they await further details from the medical examiner regarding the official cause of death.
