  • The killing has reignited outrage over Mexico’s femicide epidemic

“They’re Going to Kill Me”

Valeria Márquez, 23, looked directly into the camera and said what no one expected to hear: “Maybe they were going to kill me.”

She was live on TikTok inside her Blossom the Beauty Lounge salon in Jalisco, Mexico. Minutes later, someone called her name.

“Hey Vale,” a man said off-camera. “Yes?” she replied before muting the stream.

That was the last word her followers heard.

A Killer Disguised as a Messenger

A man entered the salon and handed her a stuffed animal and Starbucks coffee. Then, without warning, he returned with a gun.

He shot Márquez in the head and chest. Her body dropped on camera as thousands watched in horror.

Denis Rodríguez of the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the attacker had visited hours earlier pretending to deliver an “expensive gift.” He returned with deadly intent.

Cartel Hit Suspected

Authorities say the hit mirrors methods used by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Gunmen on motorcycles, known as sicarios, often target people in public — and fast.

Rodríguez said the man asked if Márquez was there, suggesting he didn’t know her personally. “This looks like a paid job,” he stated.

The influencer died with her phone still recording.

A Second Killing Nearby Raises Alarms

Just hours before Márquez was murdered, gunmen killed a former congressman inside a mall in the same region of Guadalajara.

Investigators are now checking if the two killings are linked.

Rodríguez said both attacks involved motorcycle-riding hitmen, both happened in public spaces, and both sent shockwaves across Mexico.

TikTok Account Vanishes After Killing

Shortly after the livestream ended, someone picked up Márquez’s phone. Their face appeared briefly before the feed cut off.

TikTok removed her account within hours. Authorities are reviewing the final frames to identify potential suspects.

The influencer had nearly 200,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram, where she flaunted a life of yachts, jets, and designer bags.

Femicide Epidemic Back in Spotlight

Márquez’s brutal murder reignited national outrage over Mexico’s ongoing femicide crisis.

Since 2001, more than 50,000 women have been killed. Nearly 10 lose their lives every day in the country.

But few deaths have played out as publicly — or as horrifically — as Márquez’s final moments.

Funeral Held, But Questions Remain

Loved ones gathered for her funeral in Jalisco, laying the young influencer to rest.

Outside the church, the mood was grim. Her luxurious life had ended in a brutal ambush.

Who ordered the hit? Why did she sense her death coming? And who was watching as she died live on air?

Mexico mourns another woman lost to violence — but this time, the world watched it unfold in real time.
