Merck Expansion: Delaware Approves $30.2 Million Grant

Delaware’s Big Move

Delaware is making a big push to attract Merck Expansion. The state approved a 30.2 million grant to encourage the company to build a 900 million facility near Wilmington. This is the largest grant Delaware has given to a company since 2011. The goal is to bring jobs and economic growth to the state.

Merck’s Plans for the Facility

Merck is considering building a new manufacturing facility at the Chestnut Run Innovation and Science Park near Greenville. The facility would produce drug substances and products. It could create around 375 full-time jobs. Merck is still looking at other locations, but Delaware leaders are hopeful. If chosen, Merck would sign a 20-year lease at the site to start the Merck Expansion.

Breaking Down the Grant

The 30.2 million grant includes 4.7 million for job performance and $25.5 million for capital expenses. The job performance grants will be paid after Merck invests in the facility and workforce. This deal shows Delaware’s commitment to attracting major businesses. It could also strengthen the state’s life sciences industry.

Merck’s Ties to Delaware

Merck already has a presence in Delaware. The company operates an animal health facility in Millsboro. This new project would expand its footprint in the state. Delaware leaders see this as a chance to boost the local economy. They believe it could attract more scientific and industrial investments.

Optimism from Local Leaders

Michael Fleming, president of the Delaware Bioscience Association, is optimistic. He says the new facility would be a big win for Delaware. It would validate the state’s growing life sciences industry. Fleming hopes Merck chooses Delaware. He believes it would strengthen U.S. manufacturing and supply chains.

This story is about more than just a grant. It’s about Delaware’s future. Bringing Merck to the state could mean jobs, growth, and new opportunities. It’s a bold move, but one that could pay off for everyone in Delaware.
