Meghan Markle reportedly struggling to find CEO for American Riviera Orchard as 18 staff members quit

Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, is facing difficulties as it struggles to find a CEO, according to a recent report. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, introduced her new business venture in March, hinting at its upcoming launch. However, six months later, there’s still no confirmed release date or details on the products to be offered.

Sources suggest that the delay is largely due to Markle’s ongoing challenges in hiring a CEO. “The numbers don’t lie, and having nearly 20 staff members quit tells its own story,” an insider revealed to Closer. “It’s unprecedented, even for a startup.”

The source also noted, “The brutal reality is that Harry and Meghan are very demanding and difficult to work for, which has caused friction within the team.”

While the brand’s products are not yet available for purchase, Markle has begun introducing her brand to an exclusive circle. In April, she sent jars of strawberry jam to select celebrities, generating buzz and a “strong start” for the company. She has since sent dog biscuits to her celebrity friends and hinted at a future rosé wine range.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the former actress was seeking investors for her new venture. Branding strategist Lucie Greene told The Sun in July that ongoing pop-ups, product seeding, and exclusive dinners may continue until an official launch occurs. “It could be that she’s still courting investment,” Greene explained. “If the brand is direct to consumer, there will need to be a substantial marketing budget for consumer acquisition.”

Despite the setbacks, the brand’s name is a tribute to Santa Barbara, California, often referred to as the “American Riviera,” where Markle and Prince Harry reside with their two children. A trademark application for American Riviera Orchard revealed plans to sell a range of products, including tableware, drinkware, kitchen linens, and edible treats like jams, marmalades, and spreads.

The challenges facing the brand come amid other recent staff departures, including the resignation of the couple’s chief of staff, Josh Kettler, after just three months on the job. Kettler’s departure marks the 18th staff member to resign while working for the Sussexes.

Markle’s representatives have not yet commented on the situation.
