Meals on Wheels RI launches 2025 awareness campaign

Meals on Wheels Rhode Island (MOWRI) has kicked off its annual campaign to help seniors. The organization’s goal is to provide nutritious meals and build strong social connections for older adults. The program is vital for seniors who might not have access to healthy food or social interaction. By focusing on nutrition and relationships, MOWRI ensures seniors stay healthy and connected to their communities. This campaign will raise awareness of how important these services are.

Governor McKee declares March as “March for Meals Month”

On Thursday, Gov. Dan McKee declared March as “March for Meals Month.” This month is dedicated to supporting programs like MOWRI that help meet the needs of older adults. The Governor’s announcement shines a light on the importance of these services. It’s a time to recognize the hard work of volunteers and organizations that support seniors every day. MOWRI provides much-needed meals and a chance for social interaction, improving seniors’ quality of life.

The event at Coventry Resource and Senior Center

The campaign launch took place at the Coventry Resource and Senior Center. This site is one of MOWRI’s partner locations for the Home-Delivered Meal Program. The center plays a key role in delivering meals and providing services to the local senior community. It was a perfect spot to highlight the ongoing impact of the Meals on Wheels program. The event helped gather people together to support the cause and learn more about what MOWRI does every day.

Meals on Wheels is Bringing together the community to support a good cause

Christina Pitney, the President and Board Chair of MOWRI, spoke about how the campaign brings people together. It connects clients, elected officials, business leaders, donors, and volunteers. Each of these groups plays an important role in making the program successful. They all come together to show the impact MOWRI has on the community. This unity is a reminder that when we work together, we can make a difference in the lives of others.

Daily meals deliveries across 39 cities and towns in Rhode Island

Meghan Grady, Executive Director of MOWRI, emphasized that meals are delivered every weekday. The drivers also check on the seniors’ safety and well-being. It’s not just about food; it’s about connecting with people. MOWRI serves all 39 cities and towns in Rhode Island. These daily deliveries are vital in keeping seniors healthy and social. The drivers are often the only people some seniors see during the day, making their visits even more important.

More than just numbers: A lifeline for neighbors and friends

“These are not just numbers. They are our neighbors. These are our friends,” said Grady. “For many of us, these are our family members.” She highlighted how MOWRI’s program helps improve the lives of seniors. Thanks to the program, many seniors live healthier and happier lives. MOWRI is not just providing meals. It’s offering hope, comfort, and a sense of community. It’s about giving back to those who helped build the community we live in today.
