Mayor Adams invokes ‘Mein Kampf’ as he fights resignation calls

Mayor Eric Adams lashed out at critics calling for his resignation, delivering a combative speech at a Brooklyn church. He took a shot at Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, the official next in line if Adams steps down, claiming, “I still don’t know what he does” and mocking his work ethic.

Controversial Hitler reference

Mayor Eric Adams launched into a bizarre tirade Monday in which he invoked “Mein Kampf” and claimed he was being persecuted. Stephen Yang

In a bizarre moment, Adams referenced a widely misattributed quote from Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf, claiming Martin Luther King Jr. once used it. The phrase—often linked to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels—suggests that repeating a lie often enough makes it believable. Adams used it to accuse his critics of spreading misinformation about him.

Political and legal troubles mount

The mayor remains embattled following bribery allegations, though the Trump administration’s Justice Department recently ordered the case to be dropped, calling it politically motivated. This decision led to the resignation of Manhattan federal prosecutor Danielle Sassoon, who accused the administration of forcing Adams into compliance with Trump’s immigration policies.

Resignations shake City Hall

Despite avoiding prosecution, Adams’ administration is unraveling. Four deputy mayors—Maria Torres Springer, Meera Joshi, Anne Williams Isom, and Chauncey Parker—resigned Monday. Their departures came after the City Council Speaker and several state leaders joined the growing chorus demanding Adams step down.

‘This is the opposite of public service’

City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams declared the mayor has “lost the confidence and trust of his own staff, his colleagues in government, and New Yorkers.” She urged him to resign, saying, “This administration no longer has the ability to effectively govern.”

Adams vows to stay

Despite the mounting pressure, Adams has refused to back down. Over the weekend, he told a Queens congregation that he is on a mission from God and has no plans to leave office. However, with political support crumbling around him, his fight to remain in power is becoming increasingly desperate.
