Shots Rain Down On Crowded Party

Chaos exploded at a late-night house party in Mountain View, North Carolina, when multiple shooters opened fire, killing one man and injuring at least 11 others. The attack happened just after 12:45 a.m. Sunday, sending partygoers fleeing for their lives.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to frantic 911 calls reporting gunfire at the crowded residence. Officials say as many as 100 people, many of them local high school students, were at the party when the shooting started.

“As soon as I heard the shots, everybody started scattering off, ducking our heads, running off toward our cars, toward safety,” one teen witness said.

80 Shots Fired, One Man Dead

Sheriff’s deputies and Hickory police officers arrived to a horrifying scene. More than 80 shots had been fired, leaving 58-year-old Shawn Patrick Hood of Lenoir dead at the scene. Eleven others were rushed to area hospitals — one remains in critical condition.

Investigators say the shooting appears to have involved more than one suspect. “We’re still working to determine when they arrived, how they arrived, and their motive,” said Maj. Aaron Turk.

Police Responded Earlier That Night

Strikingly, deputies had already visited the same house earlier in the night over a noise complaint. Partygoers complied and turned the music down — but nearly two hours later, bullets flew. Authorities say there’s no current link between the complaint and the shooting.

Scene Still Active, No Arrests Yet

The crime scene spans two acres. Investigators from the FBI, ATF, North Carolina SBI, and local law enforcement are all combing the area for clues. So far, no arrests have been made.

Catawba County Sheriff Donald G. Brown II pledged a relentless effort to catch the shooters: “We are going to work together tirelessly and diligently to identify the individuals who are responsible for this act.”
