Macklin Celebrini of the Sharks rejoins team practices as he recovers from an injury.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The San Jose Sharks have announced that rookie Macklin Celebrini will be rejoining team activities on Thursday, following a nearly three-week stint on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury.

Celebrini, who was the first overall selection in the NHL draft this past June, had made a strong first impression, achieving a goal and an assist during his debut in an overtime defeat against the St. Louis Blues. Unfortunately, just two days later, he was sidelined.

In an official statement, the Sharks noted that Celebrini has shown considerable improvement over the last few weeks. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky mentioned that Celebrini is currently considered week-to-week regarding his recovery.

“We will keep tracking his recovery, but as of now, there is no established date for his return to competitive play,” the team stated.

Sportradar reported that Celebrini set a record by becoming the youngest player in NHL history to achieve two points in the first period of his debut, accomplishing this milestone at just 18 years and 119 days old. The previous record was held by Shane Doan, who was 18 years and 362 days old when he recorded two points for the Winnipeg Jets against the Dallas Stars in 1995.
