Knife attack on German bus injures 6 people with no apparent political or religious motive

A 32-year-old woman was taken into police custody following a knife attack on a bus in western Germany that left six people injured. The incident occurred on a bus en route to a local festival in Siegen, east of Cologne. Authorities assured on Saturday that there were no indications of a political or religious motive behind the attack.
Three of the victims sustained severe injuries and were declared to be in critical condition by the police on Friday. The victims, aged between 16 and 30, were all from the region, and at least 40 other passengers were on board the bus during the assault at approximately 7:40 p.m.
The wounded individuals received treatment at a local hospital, with three of them discharged after receiving outpatient care by Saturday morning. Despite the unsettling event, local authorities confirmed that the festival would continue as planned.
This incident in Siegen unfolded just a week following a knife attack in Solingen, another city in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The prior attack, attributed to a suspected Islamic extremist from Syria who evaded deportation, resulted in three fatalities and eight injuries.
In response to the Solingen tragedy, policymakers within the governing coalition are devising strategies to strengthen knife regulations and streamline deportation procedures. Authorities disclosed that the woman detained in Siegen is a German native with no immigrant background.
