Arizona Diamondbacks’ standout second baseman, Ketel Marte, saw an early exit in Saturday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies due to a leg injury. The incident occurred in the fourth inning as Garrett Stubbs of the Phillies slid into Marte’s left leg at second base during a play, causing Marte to fall to the ground in pain. Marte, who had hit his 30th home run earlier in the game off Aaron Nola, left the field with assistance and was replaced by Kevin Newman.
Marte, known as a National League MVP contender, has been having an impressive season with a batting average of .299 and an OPS of .933. This setback comes as he had been contributing significantly to his team’s performance. Marte had previously achieved 32 home runs in a season back in 2019 and has been a key player for the Diamondbacks, including his pivotal role in their victory over the Phillies in last season’s NLCS.
