Katie Perry sues for & Mio, old disabled veteran
Katy Perry is facing backlash from the family of an elderly disabled veteran after filing a $6 million lawsuit against him over a luxury mansion in California. The pop star has been called “unforgivable” by relatives of 85-year-old Carl Westcott, who was sued by Perry despite his deteriorating health.
Perry and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, secured a legal victory in 2023 over their claim to the Montecito estate, which they purchased for $14.2 million in 2021. Westcott, a bedridden veteran suffering from a neurological disorder, previously owned the 8.9-acre property but became embroiled in a legal battle with the couple after signing a deal to sell the home during the pandemic in 2020.
The “Roar” singer, 40, sued Westcott for back rent and alleged damages, prompting outrage from his family, who have accused Perry of “greedy” actions. They claim the singer and her legal team have shown increasing ruthlessness as Westcott’s health declines. “The worse my father’s condition gets, the harsher they have been in trial,” Westcott’s son, Chart, stated, criticizing the singer for allegedly exploiting ordinary people.
The ongoing dispute has fueled criticism of Perry and Bloom, with detractors accusing them of using their wealth and status to overpower a vulnerable individual in a drawn-out legal fight.
