Jil Sander’s new line blends elegance with punk flair

In Milan, the latest Jil Sander collection made a striking impression on the second day of Milan Fashion Week with its shimmering textures against a darkened runway backdrop. The runway preview showcased designs for the upcoming fall and winter, offering a fresh take on femininity.

Designers Lucie and Luke Meier creatively disrupted traditional feminine motifs with bold, edgy details. Garments included sequined fringe frocks and outerwear that captured light, paired with feathery additions on wool materials to introduce contrast and movement. Long sculptural dresses featured delicate bow embellishments.

However, amidst the elegance, punk-inspired elements played a grounding role with half-kilts belted over outfits, accessories resembling safety pins, and striking silver jewelry complementing studded footwear. This unexpected blend injected a rebellious vibe into the collection.

The collection’s visual narrative was also evident in its use of color, where floral prints appeared as if dipped in dark shades, creating an ombre effect on coats, dresses, and suits. This theme of ‘light emerging from darkness’ extended into knitwear, crafting a visual story throughout the collection.

A predominantly monochrome color scheme dominated the collection, with black, white, and grays being the central palette. However, striking accents in bubblegum pink appeared in a long fringe dress and leather designs in vibrant royal blue for male ensembles, while red brought a sense of boldness for female garments.

A notable trend in the collection was the inclusion of shearling fur coats, along with shearling detailing on deeply slit dresses, indicating a resurgence of fur on Milan’s runways. Designers also emphasized fur and leather collars secured with silver chains, along with the liberal use of shiny surfaces and sequined fringe, showcasing the diverse textures and bold choices of the collection.
