Jaromir Jagr has commenced his 37th professional season playing for his hometown team, the Kladno Knights, in the Czech league. At 52 years old, this season is anticipated to be his final one, and in the recent game against Pardubice, he assisted in setting up a power play goal, which was the only goal scored by Kladno in a 5-1 loss on Wednesday night.
This game marked Jagr’s first season opener since his departure from the NHL in 2018 when he was released by the Calgary Flames. Returning to Kladno six years ago, the team where he began his career as a young player, Jagr currently owns the team.
Despite not being in top physical condition due to a muscle injury that led him to pause pre-season training for four weeks, Jagr played in the match against Pardubice. He expressed that he requires more game time to reach his peak form, stating to local media that “That’s fine, (it was) the first game.”
