South Korean authorities are currently investigating an incident involving a Japanese woman who allegedly kissed Jin, a member of the renowned K-pop group BTS, without his consent. The incident reportedly took place during a free hug event in Seoul, following Jin’s discharge from mandatory military service in June 2024.
Police at Seoul’s Songpa station have expressed intentions to summon the woman for questioning regarding allegations of sexual harassment. However, they have withheld her identity due to privacy concerns. The authorities initiated the investigation after an online complaint was received, although further details remain scarce as the inquiry proceeds.
Reports indicate that with assistance from Japanese police, the identity of the woman was confirmed. Described as being in her 50s, she is purportedly resisting the summons for questioning. During the distressing event, which marked both Jin’s military discharge and BTS’s 11-year anniversary, the woman allegedly kissed him on the cheek in front of about 1,000 attendees. Video footage circulated widely, depicting Jin appearing uncomfortable after the unexpected act.
The woman later described the incident in an online blog post, praising the softness of Jin’s skin, as reported by a South Korean news outlet. BTS, formed in 2013, has amassed a massive international fan base known as the “Army,” with Jin being the eldest of the group at 32 years old.
