In a thrilling encounter on Thursday night, Fulham secured a 3-1 victory over Brighton in the Premier League, thanks in large part to a standout performance from Alex Iwobi.
The Nigerian winger was instrumental, netting both the opening goal and the final strike of the match. Iwobi took advantage of a poor pass from Brighton’s goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, intercepting the ball and calmly finishing into an empty net just four minutes into the game.
Brighton fought back in the second half, with Carlos Baleba finding the equalizer in the 56th minute, which ignited hopes for the visitors.
However, Fulham regained their lead when Brighton midfielder Matt O’Riley, who has a history with Fulham’s academy, inadvertently directed the ball into his own net from a corner kick. This own goal provided Fulham with a crucial edge as the match neared its conclusion.
Iwobi’s involvement didn’t end there; he capped off his impressive evening by curling a stunning shot into the goal in the 87th minute, solidifying Fulham’s lead.
With this win, Fulham has climbed to sixth place in the Premier League table, remaining just one point and one spot behind Brighton.
On the same day, Tottenham was also in action, facing Bournemouth in another match as round 14 of fixtures in England’s top tier was completed.
