It appears that Donald Trump is advocating for Ukraine to lose the ongoing war with Russia.
Reports suggest that the Republican candidate hinted at this during a recent meeting with Hungary’s authoritarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Palm Beach, Florida.
According to Orbán, Trump made troubling remarks indicating that he would not support any further financial aid for the war effort, suggesting that this would lead to the conflict’s resolution.
What Orbán meant but verbally omitted is the outlook that in this scenario that brutal conflict will likely result in a victory for Russia in the end.
Trump, known for his positive comments about Russian leader Vladimir Putin, has allegedly intervened to block additional US aid for Ukrainian defenders facing increased pressure in the conflict.
Orbán also claims that Trump has a detailed plan to end the war, although specific details have not been disclosed. Trump himself once claimed in an interview that he could bring about an end to the war within a day through his persuasive abilities.
During Trump’s visit, Orbán was warmly received, and the two right-wing leaders exchanged compliments during a dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
Surprisingly, Orbán did not request a meeting with President Joe Biden during the visit to the US, which was seen as a departure from diplomatic protocol. Biden had previously criticized Orbán for his lack of commitment to democratic values.
Hungary, under Orbán’s leadership, has maintained close ties with Russia and has refused to provide any military support to Ukraine in the conflict.
Orbán believes that Ukraine has little chance of prevailing against the superior military might of Russia.
