Israel carries out airstrikes on Gaza as American activist killed by Israeli fire is laid to rest in Turkey

A Turkish-American activist, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi from Seattle, was recently killed by Israeli fire in the West Bank during a demonstration against Israeli settlements. She was laid to rest in her hometown in Turkey, where thousands gathered to mourn her death and express anti-Israeli sentiment that is escalating due to the ongoing conflict in the region.

Eygi’s funeral in the Turkish coastal town of Didim drew large crowds, with her coffin draped in a Turkish flag and a portrait of her displayed in her graduation gown as people paid their respects. Turkey has strongly condemned her killing and announced plans to conduct its own investigation into the incident to seek justice for Eygi.

An autopsy revealed that Eygi was struck in the back of the head below her left ear by a round fired by Israeli forces. The Israeli military has claimed that her death was likely a result of indirect and unintentional fire. The United States, along with Egypt and Qatar, are advocating for a cease-fire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 14 people, including women and children. Displaced Palestinians are seeking shelter in various locations as the conflict continues to escalate. Efforts to vaccinate children in Gaza against polio are underway, with the first phase of the campaign reaching a significant number of children under the age of 10.

The war between Israel and Hamas has caused widespread destruction, displacement of the majority of Gaza’s population, and a severe humanitarian crisis. The ongoing violence has led to a high number of casualties, with many civilians, including women and children, among the dead. The World Health Organization is working to provide support and medical assistance to the affected population in Gaza and the West Bank.
