Isiah Pacheco of the Chiefs expected to be placed on Injured Reserve following ankle injury, according to AP source

The Kansas City Chiefs are facing a setback as running back Isiah Pacheco is likely to be placed on injured reserve after injuring his right ankle during the final minutes of Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Pacheco was seen leaving the stadium in a walking boot and using crutches following the injury, which occurred during the last possession of the game.

Pacheco underwent X-rays on Sunday night and was scheduled for an MRI exam to further assess the extent of the injury. Chiefs coach Andy Reid was expected to provide updates on Pacheco’s condition to reporters on Monday.

With Pacheco likely sidelined, the Chiefs, who are already dealing with injuries at the running back position, will have to rely on other options. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is on the non-football illness list and will miss several more games before being eligible to return. Undrafted rookie Carson Steele and newly acquired Samaje Perine are the only active running backs on the team, with Keaontay Ingram and Emani Bailey available on the practice squad.

Pacheco, who played a key role in the Chiefs’ recent Super Bowl victories, had a strong start to the season before his injury, tallying 90 yards rushing and a touchdown against the Bengals. The team is awaiting further test results to determine the length of his absence as they navigate the running back situation moving forward.
