Investigation Launched into Man’s Death in Police Custody on Long Island

Authorities are currently looking into the death of a man in Wyandanch, Long Island, who lost consciousness while police were attempting to restrain him. The incident began when Suffolk County police received a 911 call reporting a possibly intoxicated man on the ground in Wyandanch around 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the man behaving agitatedly, banging on a business window while only partially clothed.
After attempting to subdue and handcuff the man, officers noticed he had become unresponsive. First responders and police personnel administered CPR before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The man’s identity has not been disclosed at this time.
Following standard protocol, the New York state attorney general’s office, responsible for investigating all deaths involving police, was informed and dispatched to the site. Suffolk County police homicide detectives and internal affairs officers are also conducting investigations into the incident.
