Illegal Immigrant Who Killed Young Woman With a Car Walks Free

Key Points Summary — Immigrant Killed Woman:

  • Illegal immigrant teen killed Kaitlyn Weaver in a high-speed crash
  • The DA gave him probation and community service instead of jail
  • Kaitlyn died instantly while sitting at a stop sign
  • Her organs saved others after doctors removed life support
  • Prosecutors reversed their “no plea” stance in January
  • Teen drove a stolen car without a license or insurance
  • Family slammed the outcome as politically driven injustice

A Deadly Crash in a Quiet Neighborhood

Kaitlyn Weaver sat at a stop sign in Aurora, Colorado. She chatted with her boyfriend on speakerphone when a Jeep slammed into her car at 90 miles per hour.

The driver raced through the residential street while competing with other teens.

Her father, John Weaver, said the impact killed her instantly. Doctors kept her alive for two days so others could benefit from her donated organs.

DA Offers Shock Probation Deal

The driver, a 15-year-old Colombian teen in the U.S. illegally, faced vehicular homicide charges.

Instead of jail, District Attorney Amy Padden gave him a plea deal — two years probation and 100 hours of community service.

State law prevents officials from revealing his identity.

Prosecutors Break Their Own Promise

In 2024, the DA’s office told the Weaver family there would be no plea deal.

But in January, Padden’s team contacted them with a new plan. They said probation would be “more than the judge might give” anyway.

John Weaver didn’t accept that. “They made themselves part of the problem,” he said.

Father Blames Broken Systems

John Weaver believes both the immigration and justice systems failed his daughter.

“This illegal immigrant killed her. And now he’s walking free,” he told reporters.

He described Kaitlyn as compassionate, strong, and someone who lived to help others.

“She deserved better. The system let her down.”

Immigrant killed woman: Teen Stole Jeep, Drove Without License

Investigators say the teen took his mother’s uninsured Jeep without her permission. He didn’t have a license.

The teen crashed the vehicle while street racing. His mother originally said she would take him back to Colombia — but he later filed for asylum.

Matthew Durkin, the Weavers’ lawyer, called the deal “abhorrent” and “a complete failure of justice.”

Political Ties Add Fuel to the Fire

Amy Padden, the DA behind the deal, received endorsements from Senator Bernie Sanders and Governor Jared Polis.

Critics say her progressive politics influenced the outcome. GOP lawmakers accused her office of prioritizing ideology over accountability.

John Weaver echoed that sentiment. “This wasn’t justice. This was politics.”

DA Office Tries to Justify Sentence

Assistant DA Ryan Brackley condemned the teen’s reckless actions but stood by the plea deal after the immigrant killed woman with a car.

He claimed the teen admitted guilt and accepted responsibility. Brackley added that no sentence could ever fix what Kaitlyn’s family lost.

Padden posted a statement on Facebook. She focused on the dangers of speeding — but never mentioned the teen’s immigration status.

A Tragedy That Won’t Be Forgotten

The case reignited national outrage over illegal immigration and judicial leniency.

Kaitlyn’s family continues to fight for change.

Their daughter died because a reckless teen broke the law. Then prosecutors, they say, broke their promise.

Now, a killer walks free — and a grieving family lives with the consequences.
