Human remains discovered in residence destroyed during Colorado wildfire

Human remains were discovered in a house that was destroyed in a Colorado wildfire according to authorities on Wednesday, amidst nearly 100 large blazes raging across the western United States. The body was found in one of as many as five homes that were burned in a fire near Lyons, Colorado, about a mile north, stated Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson. Detectives are aiding in the investigation into the death but did not disclose further details.

The wildfire started on Tuesday afternoon and had consumed approximately two square miles by Wednesday morning. The fire was reported as zero percent contained in a federal wildfire report released on Wednesday. Around 150 personnel were actively fighting the blaze.

This fire was one of multiple large fires burning along Colorado’s Front Range. Another fire on the outskirts of the Denver metro area, near the small town of Conifer, led to the evacuation of roughly 575 residences overnight on Tuesday. By Tuesday night, the fire had burned less than a square mile. Jefferson County officials announced they were struggling with limited resources and had not yet managed to contain the fire.

Nationwide, close to 28,000 firefighters were combating 95 large fires, as reported by the National Interagency Fire Center.
