Hossler records impressive 10-under 60 at rain-soaked Sedgefield in delayed Wyndham Championship

Beau Hossler put on a remarkable performance in the Wyndham Championship, shooting a 10-under 60 at the Sedgefield Country Club. Despite coming close to a sub-60 round, Hossler finished with pars on the last three holes. The tournament, delayed due to heavy rain and wind from Tropical Storm Debby, saw Hossler leading by two strokes over Billy Horschel, who couldn’t complete his round due to darkness, with two holes left to play.

Benefiting from the wet conditions, players were allowed to lift, clean, and place their golf balls on the fairways. Hossler impressed with a front-nine 28, including a tap-in eagle on the par-5 fifth. He continued his stellar performance on the back nine, finishing with nine birdies but narrowly missing out on birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. Hossler’s 10-under fell just one stroke short of the course record.

Hossler, aiming for his first PGA Tour victory, expressed his satisfaction with his performance, especially with his strong driving and mid-iron shots. The 29-year-old golfer entered the Wyndham Championship placed 88th in the FedEx Cup standings, needing a strong finish to secure his spot in the playoffs next week.

Billy Horschel, currently 27th in the FedEx Cup standings, showcased his skills with a notable eagle on the par-4 second hole. Horschel emphasized the importance of accuracy off the tee in the soft course conditions. With a second-place tie at the British Open and a recent victory in the Dominican Republic, Horschel is in good form heading into the playoffs.

Other notable performances in the tournament included Nick Taylor of Canada at 7 under with four holes remaining, and Matt Kuchar, Brendon Todd, Austin Eckroat, and Ben Taylor all shooting 64. Kuchar, aiming to secure a spot in the top 70 for the playoffs, highlighted the advantage of lift, clean, and place rules in producing solid shots.

Jordan Spieth, currently 62nd in the FedEx Cup standings, eagled the par-5 15th hole in his round of 67. Playing the event for the first time since 2020, Spieth looks to improve his standing in the playoffs with a strong finish at the Wyndham Championship.
