Barbaric subway killing: Man sets sleeping passenger on fire, watches her burn

In a shocking act of brutality just days before Christmas, a man allegedly set a sleeping passenger on fire aboard a Coney Island F train and then sat calmly watching as she burned to death.

Disturbing video footage obtained by The Post shows the man seated on a bench, observing as flames engulfed the unidentified woman. The victim, standing near the subway car door, was engulfed in fire as the train idled at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Witnesses and Suspect Description

A transit cop briefly walked past the open door during the incident, appearing to use his radio before continuing down the platform. Shortly after, the suspect, described as approximately 5-foot-6, weighing 150 pounds, and between 25 to 30 years old, stood as if to leave before the video ended.

The NYPD released images of the suspect, who was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, jeans, brown boots, and a dark knit hat with a red band. Authorities have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Details of the Attack

Police sources revealed that the victim was asleep when the suspect, seated across from her, got up, walked over, and allegedly threw a lit match on her. Liquor bottles were found near the woman, though it remains unclear if they played any role in the blaze.

First responders extinguished the flames, but EMS declared the victim dead at the scene.

Ongoing Investigation

The grisly nature of the attack has left the community reeling as investigators work to uncover more details. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in locating the suspect responsible for this heinous crime.

This brutal incident marks yet another tragic chapter in the ongoing safety concerns surrounding New York City’s transit system.
