Home run! Most Americans liked Trump’s inspiring fireworks speech

President Donald Trump’s fiery 99-minute speech to Congress on Tuesday night was a hit with viewers, according to an exclusive DailyMail.com snap poll. While the address featured his signature taunts and boasts, 57% of respondents approved of his remarks, while just 32% disapproved, based on an online survey of 774 viewers by J.L. Partners.

Strong Ratings and Optimistic Tone

The speech, packed with victory laps and bold proclamations, struck an optimistic chord for many. About 58% of viewers said they felt the tone was uplifting, particularly after Trump declared, “The American Dream is surging bigger and better than ever before.”

“This was a knockout speech for Trump,” said pollster James Johnson. “Viewers felt he was confident, optimistic, and strong—and they left feeling more positive about America’s future than before.”

Trump Declares ‘Unrelenting Action’

Taking the stage six weeks after returning to office, Trump framed his administration as a powerhouse of action.

“It has been nothing but swift and unrelenting action,” he said. “The people elected me to do the job, and I am doing it.”

His first address to Congress since his political comeback underscored his grip on Washington, where Republican control of the House and Senate grants him sweeping power.

Longest Speech in History, Full of Signature Trump Moments

At 99 minutes, it became the longest presidential address to Congress ever recorded. It bore all the hallmarks of a Trump rally—bold claims, attacks on his predecessor, heated protests, and theatrical moments designed for prime-time television.

Three-quarters of poll respondents said the speech reflected the Trump they expected, while 62% called it “strong” and 53% found it “caring”—a rare description for the often-combative president.

Protests, Walkouts, and Applause

Not everyone was impressed. Even before Trump spoke, Rep. Al Green was removed for shouting objections. Other Democrats walked out, while some staged silent protests, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who held up a whiteboard reading “Start paying your taxes.”

Trump, unfazed, mocked his opponents: “There is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy… These people will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements.”

Meanwhile, Republicans erupted in applause, with one of the loudest moments coming when Trump introduced Elon Musk. The president praised Musk’s leadership of his newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), claiming it had already rooted out hundreds of billions of dollars in waste—a figure critics dispute.

Mixed Reactions, But No Surprises

Despite the drama, most viewers knew what to expect.

“The public did not feel it was a unifying speech,” said Johnson. “They called it divisive, and felt Trump was more incendiary than the Democrats protesting on the House floor.

However, the poll showed that viewers cared more about Trump’s policies than his style, and 65% found the speech interesting, while only 27% called it boring.

Major Announcements and Theatrical Surprises

Trump used the occasion to unveil major policy moves, including:
? Renaming the Gulf of Mexico and a mountain in Alaska
? Declaring English as the official U.S. language
? Ending diversity programs
? Banning transgender women from female sports teams
? Expanding U.S. shipbuilding and mineral production
? Pledging to plant “the American flag on Mars”

He also delivered emotional made-for-TV moments, including:
? Naming 13-year-old DJ Daniels an honorary Secret Service agent after battling brain cancer while dreaming of a law enforcement career.
? Granting a high school student a surprise acceptance to West Point, live during the speech.

Trump’s Power Play in Washington

With his allies controlling Congress, Trump wasted no time in flexing his authority, declaring:
“My administration will reclaim power from this unaccountable bureaucracy. Every federal bureaucrat who resists this change will be removed immediately, because we are draining the swamp.”

Despite the protests and controversy, Trump owned the night—and with strong approval numbers from viewers, his speech signaled that he’s still the dominant force in Washington.
