Ground-nesting bees sting 13 children and 4 adults at a western Michigan park

Thirteen young children and four adults experienced bee stings caused by ground-nesting bees at Rogue River Park in Plainfield Township, Michigan. The group of 3-year-olds, from a nearby child development center, had disturbed the nest during their visit to the park on Friday afternoon. WZZM-TV reported that some bees managed to get inside the children’s clothing, resulting in multiple stings for a few of the children. The daycare center confirmed the incident.
The children were swiftly moved away from the bees and onto a bus for safety. Fortunately, none of the children suffered serious injuries, Plainfield Township Fire Chief Kyle Svoboda stated. Plainfield Township is located just north of Grand Rapids.
