Governorโ€™s Choral Programs: How to apply for next school year

Governor Kelly Armstrong has officially opened the application period for North Dakotaโ€™s Governorโ€™s Band/Orchestra and Choral programs. These programs allow school, community, and church bands, orchestras, and choirs to serve as the official State Band/Orchestra and Choral Program for the 2025-2026 school year. This is an excellent opportunity for local musical groups to gain recognition and represent the state at important events.

The selected groups will have the chance to perform at high-profile state events, which could include the annual State of the State Address and other official ceremonies. Governor Armstrong encourages all eligible groups to apply and show off their musical talents and achievements. This gives groups a unique chance to earn recognition for their hard work and dedication to music in their communities.

How to apply for the Governorโ€™s Band/Orchestra and Choral Programs

Interested groups must submit a complete application to the Governorโ€™s Office by the deadline. Along with the application, they will need to provide references that can speak to their musical abilities and community involvement. In addition, groups are required to submit a musical recording. This recording will give the selection committee a chance to hear the groupโ€™s performance and evaluate their musical skills. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 4. Groups that fail to meet this deadline will not be considered for the program.

The Governorโ€™s Office will review all applications carefully. They will consider several factors, including the quality of the music, the groupโ€™s achievements, and their involvement in the community. Groups should provide as much information as possible in their applications to stand out during the selection process.

Selection process for the Governorโ€™s Band/Orchestra and Choral Programs

After the application deadline, Governor Armstrong and First Lady Armstrong will review the submissions and select the two groups. The selection process will focus on the groupsโ€™ musical talent, achievements, and their involvement in the local community. Community engagement is important because the Governorโ€™s Office wants to recognize groups that make a positive impact outside of the music world.

The Governor and First Lady will carefully listen to the musical recordings and read the references provided by each group. This will allow them to make an informed decision about which groups will represent North Dakota. Once the groups are selected, they will be invited to perform at official events throughout the year.

Performance opportunities for selected groups

The selected groups will perform at prestigious events. The Governor will announce the Band/Orchestra and Choral Program in April. The groups chosen for the program may perform at the Capitol in May 2025. They may also perform at other official events throughout the 2025-2026 school year. This opportunity lets the groups showcase their talents on a statewide stage and gain recognition for their musical excellence.

Besides performing at the Capitol, the selected groups may perform at other state functions. They will perform in front of key state officials and community members. These performances will give the groups exposure and highlight the stateโ€™s support for music and the arts.

Importance of music in North Dakota communities

Governor Armstrong emphasizes the importance of music and the arts in North Dakotaโ€™s communities. Music brings people together and enhances the cultural life of the state. The Governorโ€™s Band/Orchestra and Choral programs are an important part of this effort, offering local musical groups the chance to shine.

These programs highlight the role of music in education and community engagement. By supporting these groups, the Governor hopes to inspire the next generation of musicians and encourage more people to participate in the arts. The program also strengthens ties between the state and its local communities, showcasing the talent and spirit of North Dakota.
