SAVANNAH, Ga. — A Georgia Republican previously noted for her unconventional gubernatorial campaign under the tagline “Jesus, Guns, and Babies” has now set her sights on Congress for the 2026 election.
Kandiss Taylor, hailing from Baxley, made her announcement on Tuesday, featuring as a guest on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast. Taylor expressed her intent to compete for the Republican nomination in the 1st Congressional District of southeast Georgia.
Taylor boldly stated, “I’m ready to go to D.C. and blow some things up,” and confidently asserted that she would draw support from both Republicans and Democrats because of her representation of Jesus’ values.
During her previous attempt to become Georgia’s governor in 2022, Taylor’s campaign was heavily focused on religious principles and various conspiracy theories. Her campaign bus sported the slogan “Jesus Guns Babies,” and she controversially demanded the demolition of a Georgia monument often compared to Stonehenge, deeming it satanic.
Although Gov. Brian Kemp triumphed in the gubernatorial primary, Taylor garnered 3% of the vote, finishing third. She refused to concede and alleged, without evidence, that the election was compromised due to extensive fraud.
Currently, Taylor holds the position of 1st District chairperson for the Georgia Republican Party.
Her bid for Congress sets the stage for a possible Republican primary clash next year with incumbent GOP Rep. Buddy Carter, who secured reelection for a sixth term last November. Carter’s district covers a 15-county area including Savannah and the Okefenokee Swamp bordering Florida.
Sharing similar political inclinations, Carter is also known as a fervent supporter of President Donald Trump. He recently proposed a bill that would authorize the U.S. acquisition of Greenland, renaming it “Red, White, and Blueland.”
There’s a possibility Carter’s Congressional position may become available in 2026 should he decide to challenge Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff. However, Carter mentioned he is waiting for confirmation on whether Kemp will enter the Senate race.
