Former NFL star Adrian Peterson instructed by judge to surrender assets to settle $12 million debt

Former NFL star Adrian Peterson has been directed by a Texas judge to surrender personal assets to settle a debt that has snowballed to over $12 million. The debt stems from a lawsuit involving a $5.2 million loan that Peterson did not repay to a lending company in Pennsylvania, with the amount increasing due to interest and fees.
A court-appointed receiver, Robert Berleth, has been working to obtain funds from Peterson as part of the judgment. Berleth sought a court order in July to have constables assist him in assessing assets at Peterson’s residence in Missouri City, Texas, for potential sale.
Berleth emphasized the need for constable presence to maintain order and prevent any disruption during the asset evaluation process at Peterson’s home. The judge granted this request on Monday. Peterson’s lawyers have not yet responded to requests for comments on the matter.
In February, Peterson’s legal team had filed documents to prevent Berleth from auctioning off items seized from storage units, which included Peterson’s 2007 NFL “Rookie of the Year” trophy. A judge later halted the sale of these items from Peterson’s storage units.
Peterson, known for his successful tenure with the Minnesota Vikings where he earned seven Pro Bowl selections and was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 2012, has also played for teams such as the Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, Washington Football Team, and Detroit Lions after leaving Minnesota.
