Former House Democratic leader from Maryland, Steny Hoyer, recuperating from a mild stroke

Maryland Representative Steny Hoyer, a former House Democratic leader, is recovering after enduring a mild stroke on Sunday, as confirmed by his office. Hoyer’s spokesperson, Margaret Mulkerrin, disclosed that the 85-year-old congressman suffered a “mild ischemic stroke” on Sunday night and promptly sought medical attention. Fortunately, Hoyer responded well to treatment and did not experience any lasting symptoms. Mulkerrin stated that he is expected to resume his regular schedule next week.
Hoyer, who has been representing a Maryland district since 1981, held the second-highest position in House Democratic leadership for more than a decade before relinquishing the role in 2022 to pave the way for a new cohort of leaders.
