Florida’s pro-abortion ballot initiative, the first since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, is projected to fail

Florida’s pro-abortion ballot initiative, the first since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, is projected to fail, according to ABC News. The measure, which sought to establish abortion rights protections in the Florida state Constitution, did not secure the required 60% of votes needed for passage.

Currently, Florida enforces a six-week abortion ban, with exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother’s life is at risk. Had this initiative passed, it would have reestablished abortion access in a state that previously served as a critical option for women across the South seeking abortion care until the ban took effect in April.
