Firefighters catch second ‘arsonist’ in the act of starting new blazes in LA

Montes’ arrest details

Residents intervened, restraining him with zip ties and rope until police arrived. Witnesses reported that Sierra-Leyva appeared determined to start fires, allegedly telling one resident, “I can’t stop. I’m not putting this down.”

Police initially arrested Sierra-Leyva for a probation violation, as they lacked sufficient evidence to charge him with arson. Investigators are still examining the case, and Sierra-Leyva is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Meanwhile, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials plan to issue a detainer request for him. However, due to California’s sanctuary state laws, this request may not be honored.
