Emergency response called for excavation equipment trapped under rocks at Massachusetts quarry

Responders were called to a quarry site in Sterling, Massachusetts, where an excavator was discovered buried under rocks and boulders. Aerial video footage from local news stations captured the scene. It remains unclear whether anyone was inside the excavator at the time of the incident. The Sterling Fire Department, alongside other agencies, was present at the active scene located off Chocksett Road. They urged the public to steer clear of the area, mentioning no immediate threat to safety.

Onyx Corporation, the company managing the demolition and excavation activities at the quarry site on Chocksett Road, announced the closure of all locations from Thursday through the weekend, with plans to reopen on Monday. When contacted, a representative associated with the quarry declined to provide details.

In February 2018, the company had unveiled its new quarry location on Chocksett Road, emphasizing its ability to meet various sand and aggregate needs for different types of contractors. In January, Onyx Corporation highlighted its role in processing rocks into aggregate materials essential for constructing roads, drainage systems, retaining walls, and other infrastructure projects.

Requests for additional information from both the Sterling Fire Department and Onyx Corporation have not been immediately responded to.
